I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.-Luke 2:10-11

The angel shared great news to shepherds in a field that would change the trajectory of their lives and the world around them.

The angel described it as “good news of great joy…for all people”! The message was powerful and was meant for all. It was not a message only for the shepherds or Joseph and Mary, but for all people in the world in need of a Savior.

The Savior was born in the city of Bethlehem as a sign of hope and a vessel of peace. This baby would transform the way the religious systems worked, the relationship between God’s people and government, and the relationships of people with each other. His message was that of joy and it is good!

There were two responses to this great news being revealed to the word.

The first response was found from the shepherds walked to the city to experience the truth of the message for themselves. They traveled to the spot where Mary and Joseph had their child. The Son of God was born, the shepherds walked into to discover the joy, and embrace the peace found in the Christ child.

Then, there was Herod. The arrogant, paranoid, and narcissistic king who called for the death of children to protect his kingdom. He was fearful of losing power. He was afraid of people rising out of oppression. He was unsure of God, but believed in the prophecy of a Messiah rising to overthrow his reign.

These are two responses to the good news of great joy.

How do you respond?

Do you respond with joyful surrender seeking out the truth of the message? Do you find yourself traveling as deep into the Scriptures to discover the purpose of the good news and how it transforms the world and you?

Do you find yourself in fear of the transformation? Do you find yourself trying to overthrow the message with your self? Do you hear the message of a Savior and look for ways to challenge the truth and cut it off before it can really make a difference?

Here’s the reality…

You cannot stop the message of Jesus from flowing into the world, but you can hinder it from changing your world.

The joyful news of Jesus changes lives. The glorious wonder of a baby coming into the world to redeem and reconcile a broken creation to their Creator cannot be destroyed.

You just have to choose how you will respond to the great news. God loves us and He showed it in a manger.

Are you going to be a shepherd or Herod?

May you come to find the news of Jesus to be glorious and awesome. May you run to the city to discover the truth of our Savior being born. May you hold back the Herod within trying to get you to destroy the good work that God has done through His Son Jesus.

Peace and blessings friends.
