Our Baby Is Here and I Am Back At It

I told you all last post that I would be taking a break for a couple weeks, as my wife and I prepared for our new baby to arrive.

Our new son, Jude, arrived on July 18 at 12:09pm. It has been incredible. In fact, just as incredible as when our first two came, with one exception, my wife and I decided to wait to find out if we were having a boy or girl.

We figured, we already had one of each, why not what for the third one since we really don’t have to plan to shop. We already had everything we needed if it was a boy or girl.

So, when he arrived and we were able to be surprised together, it was a fabulous experience. I cried, my wife cried, the baby cried…of course.

We were overcome by the magnitude of another life coming into this world through us, for God’s glory.

He is a gift given to us to raise and guide in the ways of the Lord, and we cannot be more honored and excited to do so.

In his book, Surprised by Joy, CS Lewis shared, “All Joy reminds. It is never a possession, always a desire for something longer ago or further away or still ‘about to be.” ((Surprised by Joy-Amazon)

This quote expressed exactly what I experienced at the birth of all my kids.

I looked at my first son with joy, knowing what will be coming through his life joining ours. It reminded me of my childhood and made me recognize the things I want him to experience and the things I hope he never has to. I also knew, my life would never be the same.

My daughter brought the same feelings. My emotions were high as she entered the world. I looked at her face and knew she would have me wrapped around her finger quickly. I knew she would make me a better man. I knew I would be setting the example for her as she searches for the man she will marry. A heavy weight, but an amazing joy.

Now, our new son comes into the world. He reminds me of Liam, our first. They look so close together in images that I was almost confused when I saw a side by side picture of them in the same outfit. Again, I am brought to a point of imagining his future, as he develops and grows as a young man.

I am truly surprised by joy with my kids.

I am excited to be back writing the blog posts again and sharing my thoughts, but even more excited to have my family.

We loved being surprised and, even more so, I am loving the joy I am feeling holding all my babies.

I’m looking forward to the next blog posts ahead and the journey that is coming.

Peace and blessings friends.

QUESTION: Have you found yourself being overcome with joy and truly being surprised by the experience?
