One of the greatest joys I have as a pastor, is assisting people in their journey of faith, especially when it comes to seeking out who God has created them to be.
I have many conversations with individuals trying to understand their calling in life. They are navigating through heavy questions of passion, purpose, and desire. We pray together, and I encourage them to continue listening to God and following His lead. I also challenge them to truly search their heart to discover what God has placed in there to pursue.
Then, finally, I leave them with this question…
If God were to call you into a certain place, would your character be strong enough for it?
Anyone following Jesus wants to know His will for their life. They want to make sure they’re serving Him correctly and walking in His plan.
However, for many, they don’t take the time to be sure they’re living up to the character God requires of those He calls.
It is not about perfection. It is not about looking clean and holy.
It is about being someone people can lift up and point to as an example. They recognize someone of quality. They see someone who is striving to live well. A person who is the same everyday, not just Sunday.
People are longing for people of character. They especially want people of Jesus to truly be living with quality character.
So, I’ve been tossing the term “character” around, but what does it really mean?
Well, I’m glad you asked…
It means, living with integrity. Don’t lie. Be real. Be honest, even when it hurts you. Don’t sell out. Be who you claim to be ALWAYS!
It means, keeping your word. We are told, by Jesus, to “let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’, and ‘no’, ‘no’…” (Matthew 5:37). If you say you’re going to do something, do it. Don’t bail when something better comes, but be where you say you’ll be. It is so easy to think this isn’t a big deal, but keeping your word, can go a long way for the gospel.
It means, being trustworthy. Can people trust you? Can people believe in you? Can people really trust who you are and what you say?
I feel like calling is fully dependent on character. If your character is lacking, then your calling will be lacking.

When people are seeking out Leaders or team members, they want people with good character. They want people they can count on. They want people who will live up to the task they have asked them to do.
Why would we expect anything different from God?
Let’s live into the calling He has for us. The main calling of shining His light in a dark world and sharing the truth of His love and grace.

Our character can reveal our understanding of His good news.
Peace and blessings friends.
